An opportunity with a leading underground gold mining company to join the team as Engineering Manager overseeing the Mpumalanga based operations. This role will carry a 2.7 appointment and have 3x 2.13.1 appointees reporting in.

The role will suit a mature, seasoned and strategically oriented Engineer with specific experience in underground trackless mining equipment and at least 2 years experience working on vertical shafts.

Minimum Requirements

  • NDQF7 (Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or NQF 6 (Diploma or Advanced Certificate) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) Mines – Mechanical or Electrical
  • Business qualification will be advantageous
  • Professional registration with ECSA will be advantageous
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as an appointed 2.13.1/ 2.13.3.1 Engineer on a mine
  • Previous experience in underground gold mining advantageous
  • Medically fit
  • Computer Literacy

Main Outcomes

  • Compliance with all applicable legislations
  • Prepare short-, medium- and long-tern infrastructural, maintenance, skills and utility plans for multiple shafts within the area of responsibility to meet business objectives
  • Drive and support the implementation of systems and standards
  • Identify opportunities, design/redesign, and implement systems to ensure continuous business improvement
  • Coordinate the planning and preparation of short- and medium-term engineering working cost and capital budgets and prepare business plans for projects to achieve LTP mining objectives
  • Participate in and respond to continuous legislative changes and ensure implementation and compliance thereof in the area of responsibility
  • Ensure legal compliance in terms of Engineering systems and audits
  • Implement measures to continuously improve SHE conditions in the workplace
  • Develop and ensure that relevant training material is provided for operators and maintenance personnel on engineering related equipment
  • Review and approve labour plans around operational targets
  • Provide leadership and inspire team members towards high performance
  • Manage performance and development of reporting staff
  • Create opportunities for development through participation and involvement in new business or technology enhancement projects for team members
