New mines, one with the mining right in place and the other in process, in the iron fields of the Northern Cape.

Reporting to a very seasoned Board of Directors, the role will inter alia be responsible for:

Operational Management:

  • Develop and implement operational readiness plans and strategies to establish two small scale iron ore mining opportunities (~1mtpa each) in the Northern Cape
  • Develop and implement operational plans and strategies to achieve production targets
  • Ensure that all mining activities are carried out in accordance with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Oversee the development and implementation of exploration and development plans
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained and operated efficiently and effectively
  • Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the mining operation
  • Monitor costs and expenditures to ensure that they are within budgetary limits
  • Review financial statements and reports to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective action as necessary
  • Develop and manage a supply chain process
  • Manage all contracts of service providers

Human Resource Management:

  • Manage the recruitment, training, and development of staff and contractors
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with all employees and contractors
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are aware of their responsibilities and are trained to carry them out safely and effectively
  • Stakeholder Management:
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and regulatory bodies
  • Represent the company in negotiations with stakeholders as required

The General Manager will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be required to provide regular reports on the following:

  • Production levels and targets
  • Financial performance
  • Health, safety, and environmental performance
  • Exploration and development activities
  • Stakeholder engagement activities

The ideal candidate for the position of General Manager should possess the following qualifications:

  • A degree in mining engineering or a related field, a Mine Managers ticket (MMCC) and blasting ticket
  • At least 10 years of experience in a management role in the mining industry
  • Experience in managing small to medium-sized mining operations (with added experience in large companies seen as beneficial)
  • Specific experience in open pit mining
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to mining operations
  • Understanding of financial management principles and practices
