Because of the complexity of the commodity a strong understanding of geology coupled with solid opencast mining experience is essential. Knowing where to mine is as important as how to mine.

A strong team is in place to support the role, both in mining and the geology. The role would still require a very hands-on approach – often with half the day spent in the pit. The strategic and people leadership are other important focuses in the role.

• Degree in Geology or Mining (Honours preferred)
• Solid experience – 15-25 years in mining
• Opencast mining
• Geology
• Strong planning and systems (to measure and report) skills

The mine is based about an hour’s drive from Pretoria up into Limpopo.
