Opportunity with a top mining company in the Northern Cape for a qualified female Drill & Blast Section Manager.

Responsibilities will include:
Drilled Ore / Waste Blocks

  • Ensure holes are drilled according to the weekly schedule and correct specifications to ensure the required blasting results are achieved.
  • Sample drilled holes correctly and as per WI, forward to Geologists for analysis and block classification.
  • Optimize equipment capacity through CI projects in order to improve production throughput.
  • Drill supporting holes when the burden is too wide, to ensure the correct fragmentation.

Budget and Cost Control Management

  • Assist with compiling of annual budget and ensure adherence to company policy.Monitor spending and allocation of expenses to ensure appropriate reporting and cash flow management.
  • People Management-
  • Optimise human resources in a way that maximum output is delivered by the section as a whole.
  • Ensure work ethics is of such a nature that workers continuously strive towards improving their own performance.
  • Assess the training needs of the Section against the defined skill requirements and develop and implement a training plan within your authority limits
  • Set expectations for the Supervisors about crew leave.
  • Monitor leave and turnover data and initiate/authorise recruitment activity so that crew strength is maintained.
  • Fully understand the policies, processes and systems which apply to your team’s work and provide leadership so that your team works within these
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Build, manage and maintain healthy relations with stakeholders to assist in achievement of organizational goals.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to provide relevant support and input for production targets achievement.
  • Ensure continuous customer satisfaction by producing and delivering on required volumes.
  • Improvement Initiatives
  • Manage mine operations and processes safely, efficiently and cost effectively to meet short term and long term production and project objectives.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives for mining processes to ensure optimisation of operational and production activities.
  • Future
  • Understand the complete future structural changes for the Production North Mining Department.
  • Participate as an effective team member working collaboratively with the Manager on the Department implementation plan and develop an implementation plan for approval for the section.
  • Work with direct reports to ensure all clearly understand the changes that are to occur in respect to their roles and those of their team members.
  • Monitor implementation and work with Supervisors to correct any variations that may be occurring.
  • Environment Management
  • Ensure the compliance to all legislative regulations to maintain a risk free environment.
  • Improve measure and solutions to eliminate reoccurrence of incidents and pollution.
  • Ensure the availability of water at all times for processes to be completed within timeframe.
  • Implement measures and solutions to ensure that mine waste materials are not hazardous to the environment and its surroundings.
  • Safe and Healthy Work Environment
  • Ensure work environment complies with all legal, health and safety practices at all times.
  • Identify unsafe practices and situations and report it to the relevant stakeholder.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings to ensure standards are achieved.
  • Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations, and address issues as part of demonstrating safety leadership

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant National Diploma or Degree in B.Eng. Mining/ BSc Mining
  • Open Cast Blasting Certificate / U/G / Blasting Ticket- FLM / MMP will be a recommendation
  • Mine Managers Ticket / Mine Overseers Ticket (Advantageous)
  • Computer Literacy, MS Office. Dispatch system ( Modular ) SAP
  • Code 08 Drivers Licence
  • 5 years relevant Mining production experience
  • Operational supervisory experience
  • Extensive experience in Drilling and Blasting operations
