The opportunity is with a top mining company based in Johannesburg. This senior level role is positioned to provide support to the executive in respect of the financial evaluation business plans and investment opportunities, including the consideration of capital allocation and capital structuring.
For this role we require:
- Solid experience in mining (pref) or Oil & Gas (2nd choice)
- Strong analysis, investment appraisal exp at group/business level as well as long term capital projects (3yrs+, multi billion Rand projects)
- Long term planning, NPV, ROI in mining or similar context
- Business evaluations
- Preferably an engineering background with finance exp, or strong financial background (CA(SA)) with solid relevant mining experience
- The role is reserved for South African citizens
Managing a small team of Analysts and at times contractor, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive financial planning and analysis service to ensure a sound foundation for group strategic and investment decision making. The role will interact broadly across disciplines, from GMs at the mines, Heads of Department, the Group Financial Controller etc.
The Senior Manager Financial Planning and Analysis is responsible for taking a lead role in the company’s financial planning and analysis process, ensuring alignment between financial, business and strategic planning within the business unit and with the resource development plan, life of asset plan and integrated planning processes.
Responsible leading the full range of activities, including analysis in support of capital structure, investment analysis and appraisal, and long term/strategic financial planning. Specifically, this role will lead the thinking and analysis on financial planning and analysis of project work, guiding and overseeing the work of the team. The role takes responsibility for leading investment appraisal activity and evaluation support, formulating recommendations, and other analysis in support of planning and decision-making. The role requires strategic thinking and a broad awareness of both the internal and external environment and how these impact one another.
The role is responsible for establishing the long term financial plans (ensuring alignment with the medium and short-term plans) for use by senior management, the Executive Committee and the Board. It contributes to the overall Group resource development plan, life of asset plan and integrated planning processes and ensures alignment with the Group. It owns the group model and provides modelling support to the Capital Projects, Strategy, Business Development, Operations and Technical functions.
The role works within the Group functional model ensuring that input and output of the plans are fit for purpose for multiple stakeholders. The role requires sound technical/operational knowledge, deep financial analytical skills, strategic thinking and a broad awareness of both the internal and external environment and how these impact one another.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Manage the long-term financial planning and modelling work:
- development and management of sophisticated financial models
- interface with business units on long-term plans and life-of-mine models
- valuation work
- Providing financial modelling services to Capital Projects, Technical and other functions
- Lead the financial analysis on different strategic scenarios in support of the development of strategy
- Perform analysis in support of capital structuring decisions such as dividend policy and funding structures
- Manage and perform other ad-hoc analytical/modelling work to provide insights into critical decision factors
- Advise management on impact of investments and loans for medium and long term financial plans
- Lead other ad-hoc analytical/modelling work to provide insights into critical decision factors.
- Advise Executives on whether potential investments or commercial transactions would add value to the business and that the chosen methods of execution are the best solutions.
- Advise sponsors of the internal and external procedures and requirements that need to be met and to make sure that all appropriate advisers have been consulted for their views (Legal, Tax, Company Secretarial, Investor Relations, etc).
- Ensure appropriate skills and resources are applied to the evaluation investment decisions and long-term plans.
- Lead and develop a top-quality team of professionals.
